Very interesting: High intensity vs endurance training.

We train for short duration, very intense, self-defense situations, even against multiple opponents. We do not train for multiple 5 minute octagon rounds. I have been on many test boards where students failed or performed poorly who trained only by endurance running and biking. The explosive demands of self defense need training which is explosive and intense.

The distinction between high intensity and endurance training becomes blurred if the endurance training is intense enough or the intense training lasts a long time. If an individual does a continuous circuit of intense resistance exercises which lasts an hour, is s/he engaging in endurance or high intensity exercise? Obviously, both. I suspect that while the Diaz brothers train for triathlons, their “endurance” runs, swims and bikes are at a high level of intensity, pushing themselves to ignore pain and fatigue. To call this only endurance training is misleading. We encourage our students to combine endurance and intensity for best results. We have adopted “interval training” as our preferred method. IT involves moderate intensity exercise interspersed with short duration all-out effort then return to moderate intensity without pause until heart and breathing return to comfortable level. then repeat the process without pause. Comments welcome.

I would say that this makes sense about working hard physically to replace brain cells I suppose. I’m no head doctor. I have worked physically hard in sports and my paying work since I was very young. I am now 63 and 3/4 and still working hard and in food physical shape. Still not using the little blue pill and the ladies still stalk me..just sayin.
Stress is never good although almost always necessary to accomplish things. Too much stress is definitely detrimental to a persons health. Laughter is the secret to a long happy life. It keeps you young and stress free. Don’t take things to serious. You are going to come out on the other side. And hey! If you lose everything you own.. well starting over can be refreshing.

Huh? There are so many things I want to say here that they’re getting all jumbled up in my ‘blue-pill’ induced brain and who’d think it, I’m only 44 and 1/8.
