A few minutes ago, I was sitting here putting the final finishing touches on my Knife Defense Mastery Course, and I realized that I’ve gotten completely numb to knife attacks.
It’s sort of a sobering thought.
I’ve seen so many people getting stabbed on video, that I’m unaffected by watching it. I can continue shoveling Honey Nut Cheerios down my gullet, with utter disregard for the life-altering violence before my eyes… for better, or worse.
On one hand, I don't ever want to encourage people to suppress their sense of empathy. It's one of the things that makes us human.
On the other, I’d rather have already felt the nausea, and butterflies, and adrenaline rush from seeing a knife attack… so my fight or flight response might not be so damn excessive in the real world.
See it. Accept it. And Prepare for it. It’s really all that we can do... even though watching a video is far from the real thing.
So the first video that I have for you today is a pretty aggressive montage of knife attacks. Try to breathe through the way they makes you feel.
As a drill, try to dull your own fight or flight response while you watch it.
See if you can control that response.
(Also, note the tendencies of the attackers… you’ll see that they commonly repeat the same attack, over and over. ...so would you be able to capitalize on that? If not, you will be able to soon.)
Here’s the video, which I must warn you is extremely graphic and extremely violent.
Hey! How about some eye bleach!
After watching that, I’m sure you would like to re-enter your happy place. Sadly, I'm not in the business of sharing videos featuring puppies and kittens.
So I give you Crazy Uncle Wang! …a Kung Fu practitioner skilled in taking strikes to the nuts, and throat, and stomach... all for the sake of entertaining his family at meal time.
I don’t know how he does it, and I don’t care.
It just makes me happy.

Next week, I will begin to show you the art of knife defense... so that you can instinctively defend yourself against such mayhem. I, for one, am incredibly excited.
