#1. I collect your email address. I do this so that I can email you. Obviously.
All of the courses on this site are more than one video long, and since you couldn't possibly retain all of the information in a single sitting, I break the info up into digestible tidbits and email them to you over a week or so.
(This also gives you a chance to practice what you learned.)
After sending you a bunch of free stuff, I will probably encourage you to buy one of my training programs! After all, if you like what you've already learned, you might want a regimented training program to help you further develop these skills.
This is how I keep the lights on here at Fight Smart... and how I keep you learning stuff over the course of time.
2. I try to keep track of page performance
For example, if I have one video that folks watch 100% every time before buying something, and a different video that folks only watch for 30 seconds before clicking away, I know which of my videos is crap. This is also how I find problems with pages, like broken video links.
My motivation is always to provide the best content possible, so people will like my stuff, and then ideally buy more of my stuff.
#3. I 'cookie' users so they can stay logged in, or see different content based on their page visits.
Otherwise, paid members would have to log in every time they get on the site, and that would be annoying.
For another example, if you've already visited a page that has a button pop up at the end of a video, I won't make you wait for that button the second time you visit the page.
Since you've already seen the video, I just give you the button right away.
Cookies are useful for stuff like this, and help you to have the best experience possible.
#3. I use Google Analytics. This gives me great demographic info like the average age and/or home country of my members. I'm surprisingly popular in Canada 😛 With this information I can possibly start advertising to my Canadian brethren, and even the savages as far away as New Zealand.
#4. I use Facebook and other social networks to advertise my wares and to keep you on track.
For example, if you watch Video #1 but somehow didn't catch Video #2, I can pop up a little thingy in your news feed to encourage you to watch the second video.
- The more of my course you watch, the more you improve.
- The more you improve, the more you like me.
- The more you like me, the more you buy my stuff.
Social Media helps me to make sure you don't forget about what you came here to learn (if you're even a member of any social media sites).
(I have pasted their privacy policies down below!)
#5. I keep all email addresses and data until you delete it, or ask for it to be deleted!
Look I don't do extra work, if I don't have to. Ever. So, once a name or email address is in my system, I tend to leave it there forever... or until you stop opening my mail.
If you want to unsubscribe from my mailings, you can do so on the bottom of any email. If you want your Fight Smart account deleted, I'll happily take care of it, or give you a method to do it.
The cookies will stay on your browser until you 'clear your cookies'... which is something that should be done from time to time.
Any Facebook, YouTube, Snapchat, Twitter, or Instagram information collected from ads that you might have clicked is managed by those social media accounts. You can always delete your account info with them!
Also, I don't sell email addresses or data. I'm just a dude trying to teach people how to defend themselves.
I paid for it, so I would feel like an idiot if I didn't include it. (It says the same stuff that I just said... but using actual legal terminology.)
