Last week, I found footage of a guy named Julian "The Hawk" Johnson... a boxer that I had honestly never heard of.
I don't think I've ever seen a highlight reel with so many boxers getting that creepy/dead looking kind of knocked out... with all of the twitching and creey/dead eyes and whatnot.
Here's that clip.
After initially hurting the guy, he just maims them with ridiculously hard (yet predictable) Lefts and Rights.
The predictablility doesn't seem to matter. He hits obnoxiously hard.
When I saw the clip, it reminded me of a brief section of the documentary, "When We Were Kings"; the epic story of The Rumble in the Jungle... (George Foreman vs. Muhammad Ali.)
In this brief clip, Foreman unloads Lefts and Rights into a heavy bag... leaving a dent the size of a cantaloupe... the king of melons... embedded into the bag.
He almost seems to perform the act lazily... like he stands in front of the bag for multiple hours at a time, occasionally deciding to use ridiculous scary power, but mostly just slugging away mechanically.
***(Last week I scoured the earth for this clip. After 45 minutes, I became grumpy with my failure and decided to send nothing... in protest of myself. Now, I found the clip, but YouTube is still blocking me... thus illiciting more wasted time.***
TRY to watch it here... (I make no promises).
Finally, I thought to myself, "I hope these Old Timers singing Foreman's praises got to see Tyson hitting a bag..." because, to me, it's more impressive. While punching power may be debateable, the speed and head movement is not.
Here's a semi-cool Tyson training clip, which actually cuts out all of Kevin Rooney's inaudible coaching, plays the combo on repeat, and then inserts a really annoying and unnecessary slow motion shot.
If you wrote down all of these combos, it would be a really nice resource... just sayin'.
I've spent way too much time on this email.
Goodbye.
