The Perfect "Cadence" On A Jab Counter...

Today, I'd like to share a few snappy jab counters, and a note about timing them.  After all, you must be able to counter a jab or your face shall pay the price!

Some of us just don't have face-change left to spare...

Well, today's video is like a coupon that your face wisely saved.

Watch that full round of boxing (Mosley vs Vargas)... it's a great round, right until the spectacular finish at the 2:09 mark.  

The most 'important' thing that I want you to pick up from the jab-counter that finished the job is actually the cadence... or the RATE at which he's executing the individual movements

I'd like you to SAY (out loud) the word 'slip' at the moment that Mosley slips, and say 'boom' when the hook hits.  Rewind it maybe 5 or 6 times and say it repeatedly so the rhythm and cadence sticks in your brain.  

(I suppose I could stick a .gif here to make it easy, but  you'll miss out on the whole round)

This is a great rate for a slip + hook for everyone, at any level.

It's quick enough to catch the jabber before he pulls his hand back, but it's not so quick that the average person couldn't do it.  

It's perfect... and perfectly attainable.  

Compare that to the speed of Lomanchenko executing a slip and a left cross in this video.

(Loma's counter is 33% faster. I counted the frames).

THAT... is obnoxiously fast.... and Loma proves that if you make a couple (simple) movements fast and sharp enough, you can do them repeatedly... and then smile at the guy (1:58)... and then do it again.

You don't have to be that fast.  That's silly speed.   Mosley's cadence is significantly slower, and just by thinking about achieving it, you can probably do it.

So hey, you said "Slip, boom," a few times... now stand up and make your body say it at the same pace.

Try it out.  Punch the air.  See if you can do a teeny slip and hook at the same pace as a world class boxer.  


         • If you can't do it, do more reps.  You will get faster quickly.  It might take you a week doing 20-30 reps per day... but you'll be able to do it in no time.

         • If you can do it, focus on mustering up more power while remaining within that cadence.  You don't have to make it faster, but more power is always better.  


If you don't feel like doing anything, then that's always a nice option too.  Peace on earth, my friend.  At least you got to watch some faces lose their lunch money in style today.
