I’m grateful for a lot of things…
I’m grateful that God-tier displays of Head Movement like this one inspired me to train like crazy when I was a younger man.
Motivation… what a gift.
If I never made a video of people trying to punch me in the head, I wouldn’t even have a business, nor would I be writing to you right now.
(To everyone who tried to punch me in the head: thanks buddy! For your attempted violence, I am grateful.)
But this is not a Thanksgiving-esque hype email, reminding you to be generally grateful… oh no.
I want you to be as selfish as possible in your gratefulness!
A recent study showed that maintaining a general "Gratitude Practice" dramatically increases people’s motivation to accomplish things (and significantly improves general well being.
Motivation is the driver of ALL training. If you’re not motivated, then what the heck are you going to accomplish?
The truth is, we can all benefit from hacking the neurological systems that ‘produce’ motivation.
BUT... the most effective way to do this is NOT just being generally appreciative of our blessings, the most effective gratitude practice involves other people being grateful TO YOU.
Please take a second and think of a time when someone sincerely thanked you, or showed gratitude for your actions…
Or think of the last time someone simply appreciated your character?
You feel that warm feeling in your heart? THAT feeling… is the essence of a gratitude practice. If you can make it a point to regularly trigger that emotion, your life will dramatically change for the better.
You will be more motivated.
You will improve your well being.
(Other studies have even shown significant reductions in inflammatory markers... so your joints will hurt less!)
I am going to create an opportunity for you to feel this kind of gratitude... any time you need it.
A little later this month, I am going to do a four-day fundraiser sale... and each day a share of the proceeds will benefit a new cause.
Should you participate, you will not only sharpen your skills in the realms of mixed martial arts and self defense, you will also buy a child a toy, or you will feed someone who needs a meal, or maybe you’ll help to save a life...
When the sale is over, I’ll make sure you get to read about how grateful someone is for you… and any time, you need a pick-me-up, just search for my email and read it to yourself. This will trigger the neurological networks of 'gratitude', and you will benefit mightily.
You can remember that time that you and I did something good together.
Hopefully, it will motivate us to accomplish something great.
Keep an eye on your emails later on in the month, and we will weaponize gratitude in the most positive way possible.
