A great fight selection for two reasons: The first, most certainly has to do with the ground and pound. It shows just how devastating it is when you have position, good (but basic) forearm head control, and some solid striking skills. This highlights the larger point, what works best *usually* isn’t very complicated.
The second reason is the contrast to that mentality it displayed with Belingon’s very competent stand-up. Some might even argue it to be complex stand-up technique when they consider what in most part really ended the fight (which was a well placed spinning side/back kick). A kick I believe to be one of two (the other a spinning heel kick) very powerful, and effective techniques that are largely passed over by the majority of MMA practitioners. I think this is due to the limited scenarios where the techniques can/should be used, and the openness they have to a take-down.
This is a very costly mistake as we see here, and you allude to in your email. Belingon’s presence of mind is on point here. He knew after the multiple failed take-down attempts he had forced Leone to reconsider his original game plan (which was obviously a win through submission, or points with take-downs) before he even considered throwing the spinning technique. Combine that with Leone’s high hands, constant circling away from Belingon’s perceived power, and you have the perfect set-up for the use of a spinning side/back kick. A great fight showcasing two very different ideologies in fighting. A good pick buddy..
Excellent analysis sir. I wonder why we haven’t seen this Belignon in UFC or Bellator yet? One other thing: Andrew Leone looked quite unharmed after the fight, despite of al punches, knee kicks and elbows. It seems that his guard was pretty good.
Bear in mind this is one championship ….KNEES ARE LEGAL TO GROUNDED OPPONENT…….IN UFC IT IS ILLEGAL…….KNEES TO HEAD IN HALF-GUARD WORK GOOD IN A STREET FIGHT

I was waiting for a comeback because I thought you said it was a good fight. It was a one sided dominance the whole fight.
I simply implied that it was awesome to watch. It doesn’t have to be competitive to be fantastic.

I couldn’t tell. Was it the turning back kick that dropped him?
Good fight? Agreed. But only for the guy in red….
That spinning back kick at 9:03 was fucking murderous. I got the wind knocked out of me just watching.
